EWI improving proven ergonomic courses

EWI Works isn’t just about ergonomic assessments and job demands analyses. We’ve provided ergonomic training for almost two decades across Canada and the United States in areas such as office ergonomics to industrial environments and engineering. We’ve developed course presentations and full manuals in specific topics such as manual handling, lifting, tool selection, designing workstations and how to do assessments. Some of the hottest courses have been our Principles of Industrial Ergonomics, Principles of Office Ergonomics and Ergonomics for Design Engineers.

As it is a mission of EWI to keep all ergonomic services current with changes in safety codes, new research in different fields, we are in the process of updating these courses as well as developing new ones. The courses are still based on the same principles but we’re incorporating new ideas, research and examples. Kirsten has been working with Donald and Linda to update the cognitive sections of both the course that we teach at the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary as well as in our PIE course. The University courses will also feature current and relevant examples to clearly illustrate the basic principles of ergonomics.

As for new courses, Erin had developed and delivered a very successful course early this year to one of our clients. The topic of slips, trips and falls not only appealed to the safety staff and individual workers, our blog alone about the topic, as well as our newsletter article on falling down properly, has been a huge hit. Therefore, Erin will be developing a course in this area that can be customized (as can all of our courses) to address specific topics and examples to any organization who would like to incorporate this into their ergonomic interventions.

Another new course is one that Donald will be developing and co-teaching with Brad Bruneau. Brad and Donald worked closely together to help implement ergonomic interventions at the City of Calgary and will be teaching Health and Safety Management Systems: The Basics at the University of Calgary. The course will appeal to anyone in the area of health and safety for their organization, including H&S officers, trainers, managers and others in the field – both starting out and seasoned professionals.

We’ll keep you posted as to when the new and improved courses will be available but the aim is for sometime in the fall. Again, all of the courses are being updated but they can still be customized for your organization. And don’t forget we still offer online office ergonomics training – both individually for a small fee of $11.95 per user or included as part of an ergonomic assessment.
