I wrote a quick article in one of our newsletters a few years back announcing a new product we developed based on the request of a Calgary client. As we tend to be a few steps into the future on things, I’ve noticed that this concept is now taking off for us a few years later.
To give a quick history: this particular client was interested in develooping an ergonomic training course that addressed their unique situation and could be delivered on DVD. Realizing the potential of delivering training via digital media as an alternative the the traditional “onsite” training, we were very interested in the project. We had already launced our online training course – why not take it a step further and provide a customized course in a format that didn’t require internet access?
The training DVD was a success. To date, we’ve developed three very distinct DVD training courses for different clients from addressing patient handling concerns to teaching proper manual handling in industrial environments – and the interest is accelerating. The popularity stems from its cost efficiency, ease of delivery and in particular, it can be customized.
Once the DVD has been produced, an ergonomist is no longer needed onsite to conduct the actual training. It can be used as often as needed and either incorporated into a training session conducted by an in-house trainer or given to an employee to run at their own computer. it’s also very beneficial to organizations with locations where there is limited or no internet access.
Most importantly, the DVD provides theory and hands on practice on how to incorporate safe procedures in the work environment by the use of filming and scripting real case scenarios of job tasks at an organization’s location. These scenarios, filmed onsite, provide examples that are relevant to the staff, which enhances the learning experience.
Think about how something like this would be of interest to your organization. Is the idea of having to schedule several employees off their work duties for a two day session in regular intervals a little overwhelming? Do you have many staff in remote locations? The cost of training a lot of staff the old fashioned way can add up long term. Give us a call to find out how we can ease the stress.
