EWI Works: Ask a Consultant

Question: Are there good supports available regarding posture when working at a computer? Something to wear to remind one to keep their posture in mind instead of having pain in the shoulder at the end of the day from slumping

EWI Consultant: I am unaware of any devices that help to remind coputer users of their posture. There are computer programs available that help "remind" users to take a break or perform a work relief exercise (stretch). Our experience has found that these programs can interfere with a user's work flow and can be more frustrating than beneficial.

Another method is to encourage computer users to stand at leas once per hour. When sitting down again, the user should assume a "good" upright posture. It is also important that users adjust their sitting posture every 10 minutes by shifting in their seat and performing work relief exercises regulary to help break up statick postures associated with sitting in front of a computer.

I hope these suggestions help!
